Individual coaching can be a game-changer for anyone looking to develop their personal capabilities, enhance their leadership skills or resolve difficult work dilemmas.
Interactions are built on a professional working relationship with the coach assisting the client to unlock their potential and increase their performance or personal satisfaction in their role.
Typically, the client and coach participate in a number of on-on-one sessions with the goal of providing a deeper self-awareness of the client’s strengths and weaknesses.
Often one of the key goals is determining when to deploy particular leadership strategies and to provide an understanding of the balance between the gains and costs of using a particular strategy or taking a particular course of action.
Many clients find the non-judgmental process cathartic, the coach acting as a mirror releases them from the pressures of their role and allows them to fully use their resources to finally see the wood for the trees.
Though many clients are referred to Wordplay by an organisational sponsor looking for a long-term program, others approach us directly seeking assistance in achieving their career goals or resolving a personal dilemma.
If a full programme of coaching is agreed, Wordplay follows the steps below, that mirror our leadership development program, to ensure we can provide the best service for our clients.
When a Sponsor is involved, it is essential a full mutual understanding of the process is agreed at the outset. In particular, all parties must be comfortable with the confidentiality arrangements put in place.
Step 1 – Introductory meetings: To establish any initial high-level goals and the potential working relationship. Determine the outcomes desired, agree the roles, goals and establish the necessary confidentiality agreements.
Step 2 – Assessments / Interviews (If required): To allow the client to see where they presently stand so they can clearly navigate a way forward. The outcomes of these assessments are fed back to the client and a report may be created for the sponsor if agreed: • Recommended assessments include EQI-2.0 360°
Step 3 – Initial Coaching Session to clearly outline the process, feedback insights from the assessments conducted and explain the coaching process
Step 4 – Individual Learning Plan to agree an end-to-end learning journey based on initial session.
Step 5 – Coaching using Solution-Focused techniques
Step 6 – Review matching the arrangements agreed at the outset, the progress made by reassessment and re-interviewing key stakeholders
